Veterans' Legal Aid | Helping those who fought for our freedom.

About Us

The Veterans’ Legal Aid Society was founded to fill a critical need to assist Veterans and their families in seeking Aid and Attendance benefits, as well as provide income-based legal aid services to Veterans of limited means. There are few legal practioners who specialize in this area, and consequently, many Veterans receive little help in filing the myriad forms required to receive non-service related pension benefits.

Our Veterans risk their lives keep our country safe and free, so the Veterans’ Legal Aid Society firmly believes that we must do everything in our power to ensure  that they receive the care, dignity, and benefits that they have so rightfully earned.

Veterans’ Legal Aid Society is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS.

Our Mission Statement:  Our veterans risk their lives to keep our country safe and free.  We honor and support our veterans and their families through equal access to justice.  We coordinate access to legal services for veterans through direct referrals to attorneys and legal aid organizations; we support veteran’s legal aid programs; and we assist in the management of an OBRA Trust to benefit veterans and their families.

Please note:  We assist veterans with VA pension applications and appeals through our pro bono service program.  We also provide pro bono community outreach educational programs to non-profits and municipalities.  We can also provide referrals to our member network of qualified attorneys in areas such as estate planning, elder law, personal injury, debt consolidation, family law, and criminal law.
